Energy and resource exploration company, Cairn India signed as a co-sponsor of the India's national hockey teams just prior to the second round of the FIH World League this month.
The deal is for three years and will see Cairn India pay Rs 7 crore per year.
A spokesperson from the company said it hopes the sponsorship will help the national team regain its status as a hockey giant and also popularize the sport in the country.
India counts field hockey as its national sport. The national team finished last among 12 teams at the London Olympic Games.
