In the same week it expanded sponsorship of field hockey in India, motorbike manufacturer, Hero Motocorp has announced it will end its sponsorship of cricket in the country.
Hero signed as a major sponsor of the Mumbai Indians IPL team two seasons ago and will exit the deal a year early. The deal was said to be worth $15 million and was one of the largest IPL sponsorships.
A spokesperson from the company said that the decision to not continue as a major sponsor of the Mumbai Indians will not diminish its commitment with cricket as a sport.
